Get a Productive Mindset
The productivity rate of the average American since 2009 has declined to 1%, down from 2.3% in the early 2000s. That’s more than a 50% productivity decline.
The secret to creating an inspired productive life starts with you! Productivity starts in your mind. Here are a few questions to think about:
Are you doing what you love?
According to a Gallup Poll, 70% of Americans are not happy in their jobs. Why is this important? If you are enjoying what you do and you are happy doing it, there is a sense of fulfillment and contentment. If you are doing what you love, you feel like you aren’t working at all. “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs
Are you prioritizing the things that are going to make the biggest difference?
According to a Gallup survey, it suggests that people’s disengagement from work is caused by such things as the usage of smartphones, emails and social media – all of which lower productivity. On the other hand, if you are focusing on high priority action tasks, you’ll produce more, achieve more and be inspired to do more.
Are you being present?
If you are not present, you are either thinking about things from the past that you wish you’d done differently or you’re worried about the future. Being absent mentally, even when you are physically present, will not lead to fulfillment. Being present in the moment is where your power is.
“All things will be produced in superior quantity and quality, and with greater ease, when each man works at a single occupation, in accordance with his natural gifts, and at the right moment, without meddling with anything else.” – Plato
Productivity is something we all strive for by doing the best we can, showing up, being authentic and getting the most out of the time we have. But what happens when our day is affected by unforeseen external factors or we’re out of sorts? What happens when our routine is full of distractions and our intentions to get things done are disrupted?
Get On Track
Here are some ideas to get you back on tack:
- Take a break and reset, clear your mind, take several deep breaths, close your eyes and be quiet for 10 minutes. The quietness of mind is a must for clarity, focus and keeping on track with any project, and it will set you up for the day.
- Now write a list of high priority actions and fill your day with these actions. Everything else is a distraction. You get to choose what you do and how you do it. You get to choose how your day pans out. You get to complete something or not. Why not make choices that benefit you and let go of those choices that have no benefit.
- Give yourself some time out; it doesn’t matter what area of business or work you are doing, taking a break is a must. With every forty minutes of concentrated work, take a mini break. Even if it’s just for 5 minutes, stop and make a cup of tea, sit in the sun, meditate, and sometimes it’s even helpful to take a short fifteen-minute nap during the day.
- Maintaining an empowered mindset and attitude is imperative when you want to achieve anything. When you feel empowered there is little that can hold you back. An empowered mindset can inspire other people to be empowered.
‘Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.” – Oprah Winfrey
Kindness begins with being gentle, loving and nurturing to yourself. It’s time to practice being your own best friend, accepting where you’re at in your life and who you really are right now. Practice appreciation of the awesomeness of you.
